The History Of Reportage Wedding Photography
Wedding photography is an old stream of photography, and is an integral part of any wedding ceremony. A lot of money and efforts are involved in photography as it captures the most precious moments of a person’s life. Wedding photography has evolved with time. Initially, with primitive methods, people had to pose for a lot of time for a single photograph. Today, that is no more required. With advanced technology, especially in the field of digital photography, one can take multiple pictures in just a minute. This development has given birth to an interesting kind of wedding photography which is called candid or reportage wedding photography.
In earlier times, photographers had to use tripods due to the size of the cameras. The time taken for a single click was very long as a long exposure was required for the picture. People had to pose for a long time. Nowadays, a person does not have to pose for a long time. The digital cameras allow a huge number of pictures to be clicked. The cost has also gone down as the photographers do not need any film stock for the cameras. Now, a photographer can actually experiment a lot. He can click a snap at any given time without letting the subject know about it. Pictures taken without the attention of the guests are natural and better than other images. This is the reason why reportage photography is getting popular during important events, especially weddings.
Reportage photography was primarily used by journalists in order to capture incidents for news clips. Journalists needed to take natural pictures so they used candid photography. Now the same methods are used for wedding ceremonies. People now can enjoy continuously and they don’t have to pose for photographs. Photographers click images while the crowd is busy singing, dancing, eating or talking. The pictures depict the event as it was. Initially, when reportage photography started gaining popularity, photographers used high ISO (1600/3200) for taking quick pictures. At that particular time, high ISO gave a grainy effect to the photographs. Though grains are usually considered bad for photographs, they gave a peculiar look to the pictures and soon became a special feature which people associated with real pictures. The grainy look was actually used effectively by “Time†magazine, and it became a signature style of the magazine.
Technology grew further, and now even with ISO 6400 pictures do not develop grains. That has given an extra boost to reportage wedding photography.
Everyone wants his or her wedding to be captured the way it happens. With reportage photography, it is now possible to do so. You will see people doing different things and having fun. This enhances the beauty of the pictures as they are more natural. With these pictures, you can associate actions which took place during your wedding. No wonder more and more people now prefer to use reportage photography to capture the most sacred and important event of their life.
